What is Tech Talks Bristol?

Tech Talks Bristol held its first event in November 2011. The idea is to create technology themed events which educate and inspire.

You can read about Tech Talks #1 here

What happens: There are 3 speakers who each have 20 minutes to talk about an area of technology. There is also tea & coffee and two open networking sessions.

Who should attend: Small business owners, sole traders, freelancers, managers and all those with an interest in technology.

The Speakers:

Tom Melamed: Why does your business need a mobile app strategy?

Tom has been a researcher at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, a Research Assistant at Bristol University and an engineer for a smart card solutions provider.

Today, Tom is Product Director at Calvium, who make AppFurnace. Calvium is a software services company with a passion for making technology accessible. AppFurnace is a powerful tool, which allows anyone to make great apps themselves. Tom's talk will look at why we should consider a mobile app strategy for our business and how we go about it.

Fred George: Developer Anarchy

During his career, Fred has lived and worked in US, India, China, and the UK. Today he works in London as a software developer at Forward Internet Group, where he is Director of Agile. Fred will be talking about how Forward have maintained the start-up culture within the development community despite having a team of over 250.

Fred's talk, Developer Anarchy has gathered rave reviews at GOTO London, Amsterdam and Aarhus, as well as ROOTS in Norway.

Geoffrey Roberts: Opportunities in Data

Geoffrey Roberts has over 13 years experience in Web and Mobile Services with some of the biggest brands in the world: Coke, MSN and now Nokia.

His role at Nokia has him managing and exploiting both explicit and implicit data in order to provide better services for customers

Geoff's talk will look at the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly when it comes to data. The scary reality of how much data is stored about us, and the opportunities that are available to small businesses. Businesses rarely utilise any of the data available and yet by using only 2% could take you leaps ahead of your competitors.

Tech Talks allows you to interact, network and speak one-to-one with our panel of speakers. It is an opportunity to discover something new; get excited about technology; be inspired.

Tech Talks is sponsored by SpiderGroup, IT & Cloud Computing specialists in Bristol
